Embodied Auditions Workshop

A holistic approach to audition prep

Co-hosted by Susan Davies Voice & Allison MacLaury Arts

Transform fear into flow

Tired of being told to "think positive" or "just take a deep breath" when nerves take center stage?

In Embodied Auditions, we center YOU as a performer & human because you're much more than an audition prep checklist.

We'll share our favorite mind-body-breath tools to help you begin to speak your body's language, shifting you from fear to flow so that you can do what you do best: express, communicate, connect.

We're calling it an audition if it feels important, vulnerable, and unfamiliar.

Music, dance, or theater auditions; sports try-outs; preparing for an interview; giving a presentation; speaking up for something or someone; doing the brave thing you've always wanted to do but haven't quite mustered up the nerve...this workshop is for you!

Shape your confidence from the inside out.

You are a whole human, with thoughts, feelings, beliefs, and life experiences that make your audition experiences unique.

When we can signal safety to our bodies in a felt way (not just an intellectual way), we can step into audition spaces with self-trust.

If you could think your way to calm, you'd be calm already.

We all know the signs of performance anxiety: racing heart, shaky voice, shallow breaths, negative thinking, tight muscles…the list goes on! Whether you're new to auditions or a seasoned performer, you've probably found yourself thinking, wouldn’t it just be easier if I could get rid of my nerves?!

The bad news: your nerves aren't going anywhere.

Our bodies are really smart and biologically wired to protect us. Symptoms of performance anxiety (racing heart, tight muscles) are one way that your body is trying to help you out in a stressful situation.

More importantly, no amount staying positive is going to change your audition experience if it always feels like your body is sabotaging you.

The good news: there are SO many ways to navigate nerves!

When our bodies get thrown into chaos trying to protect us, we can't think our way into calm. We need ways to speak our body's language. This is how we move from knowing what we want intellectually to experiencing it in an embodied way.

We'll explore...

  • Defining audition success on your terms

  • How to witness & befriend your body's fear response

  • Mind-body-breath strategies you can immediately incorporate into your practice

  • How to reconnect with your body in difficult moments

  • Ways to access play & flow when big feelings arise

  • Joyful audition rituals

  • and more!
